There are power outages around Monroe Park campus that have created network (internet) outages for the following buildings:
Academic Learning Commons
Cabell Library
Gitner House
Glading
West Carry parking deck
Power continues to create network (internet) issues. James W Black Music Center and Moseley House have also been impacted.
Dominion Power has been dispatched and there is no current ETA on the power restoration.
Power has been restored and all buildings are back up and operational.
We are currently experiencing a campus-wide internet outage. Our team has identified a resolution and is working on implementing it onsite. We will provide further updates as they become available.
The campus-wide outage is continuing. We are still working on implementing a solution. Some web pages and applications may be intermittently accessible to those off-campus.
Services are coming back online and our technicians are working to confirm the restoration of all services.
VCU's network and services have been restored.
We are investigating an issue with SAS servers which are impacting the VCU Reporting Center and SAS Enterprise Guide. We’re working to fix the problem as quickly as we can.
Please contact the IT Support Center with any questions or concerns at 804-828-2227 or itsc@vcu.edu.
We're back! Access to the VCU Reporting Center has now been restored.
Thank you for your patience.
We are continuing to experience widespread internet connectivity issues impacting systems on both campuses. We are currently in escalated communication with our external vendor to determine the root cause and implement a fix.
Services are starting to come back online and work continues to restore all services.
On September 18th, 9 PM—11 PM, Network Services will change how network traffic exits/enters the ACI fabric. This traffic point is currently at Poca, but we will move it to TOC during the change window. When the change occurs, we expect a minimum 30-second outage for devices inside ACI that need to talk to their default gateway. If we have an issue for one reason or another, we will use the scheduled time to debug things ourselves and with the partner working with us.
On Friday September 13th starting at 8pm, Network Services will be migrating Layer 3 networks from POCA to TOC. Connectivity will be briefly disrupted during this maintenance. The following locations will be impacted by this change.
I-Lot Deck
5285 Shawnee Rd
3701 John Tyler Hwy
2235 Staples Mill Rd
1330 N. 26th St
3300 Gallows Rd
1314 W. Main St
100 W. Franklin St
1040 Oliver Hill Way (Steam Plant / PPD Admin Bldg / Facilities Warehouse)
Police Department
1 Capital Square - (only floors 2 through 9 and SafeNet wireless on floors 12 and 25. This does NOT impact the VCUH network)
14th Floor of 701 E. Franklin St. (This does NOT impact the VCUH network)
Maintenance is expected to be completed by Midnight.
L3 migrations from Poca to Toc were successfully completed.
This morning Network Services physically moved the border router for our primary ISP from Poca DC and over to the new TOC DC. The router is now staged and at 9 PM tonight we will being the primary link online.
A minor outage is likely as traffic changes over. During this time, the existing sessions would be rebuilt via the application or the user accessing the system.
The 100G MARIA link is now operational. We are back to normal status with both ISP links working as expected.
What:
On Aug 14th from 9 AM to 12 Noon, Network Services will be physically moving the primary internet routers from the Poca data center to TOC the data center. During this move, we will be connected to the internet out of our secondary internet router and ISP out of Harris Hall.
Impact:
During this move we do not expect to have any downtime for internet access because our secondary site and router will take over to allow full internet access from there.
The router has been moved and staged to go online under an emergency CR 14600 at 9 PM on 8/14/2024.
What: Network Services will decommission old MedNet DNS servers.
When: Aug 5th, 2024 7 AM
Why: All MedNet Network 172.31.0.0/16 users have been using a unique set of DNS servers that allowed VCUH name resolution. These servers are no longer needed and they do not serve the same purpose as they once did.
Action: If you have statically assigned an IP address and DNS on a device, please make a note to change the DNS servers on those devices from 192.168.8.101/192.168.8.102 to 192.168.8.1/192.168.8.2.
MedNet DNS servers 192.168.8.101 and 192.168.8.102 have been decommissioned. Please update the settings to use 192.168.8.1 and 192.168.8.2 in their place.
